Can I access a Child Trust Fund when I turn 18?
Yes. Child Trust Funds mature when the child turns 18, at which point only the account holder can access the money.
Full answer
Child Trust Funds (CTFs) were government savings accounts for children born between 1 September 2002 and 2 January 2011. When the account holder turns 18, the CTF matures and only they (not parents) can access the funds. You can transfer the CTF to an adult ISA within 12 months tax-free without counting against your annual ISA allowance. If you do not know where your CTF is, use the HMRC online service to find out which provider holds it. The average CTF maturity value is around £2,000.
