Look up council tax bands and estimate your annual council tax bill.
Find your property band
Look up your council tax band on gov.uk (England and Wales) or saa.gov.uk (Scotland) using your postcode. Bands run A to H in England and Scotland, A to I in Wales.
Find your local authority rate
Check your council website for the 2025/26 Band D charge. Other bands are fixed proportions of Band D (e.g. Band A = 6/9 of Band D, Band H = 18/9).
Enter the figures
Input your band and local authority Band D rate. The calculator scales to your band and adds any police, fire and parish precepts.
Apply discounts
Select any discounts that apply: 25% single occupant, full student exemption, Disabled Band Reduction, or low-income Council Tax Support from your council.
Plan payments
The calculator shows annual, 10-month (standard) and 12-month payment options. Direct Debit is the most common payment method; contact your council to switch to a 12-month spread.
