What is Discretionary Assistance Fund (Wales)?
A Welsh Government emergency fund providing one-off payments to people in a crisis.
Full Definition
The Discretionary Assistance Fund (DAF) is a Welsh Government emergency support scheme offering one-off Emergency Assistance Payments (for a crisis, such as losing income or fleeing domestic abuse) and Individual Assistance Payments (to help someone stay independent at home, for example after leaving hospital or care). It sits alongside, rather than replaces, UK-wide benefits, and applications are means-tested and assessed case by case rather than paid as a fixed weekly amount.
