The overall benefit cap limit applied per household rather than per individual claimant.
Full Definition
The household benefit cap is applied to the combined benefit income of everyone in a claimant's benefit household (the claimant, any partner, and dependent children), not to each person's benefits individually. Different weekly or monthly caps apply to single claimants without children, and to couples or lone parents with children, with a further distinction between households inside and outside Greater London — reflecting the higher average housing costs in the capital.
