What is Property Allowance (£1,000)?
Tax-free £1,000 a year of gross UK property rental income.
Full Definition
The Property Allowance is a £1,000 tax-free amount each tax year for gross property income — typical for small landlords, rent-a-driveway, occasional Airbnb hosts. If your gross property income is £1,000 or less, you don't need to tell HMRC. Between £1,000 and your real expenses you can opt for the £1,000 deduction instead of itemising. Cannot be used at the same time as Rent a Room Relief (£7,500), and cannot be claimed if you receive rental income from a connected company or partnership. Operates separately from, and in addition to, the £1,000 Trading Allowance.
