What is Shared Lives Carer?
A carer who supports an adult with care needs by welcoming them into their own home and family life.
Full Definition
A Shared Lives carer supports an adult with a learning disability, mental health need, or other care requirement by having them live in, or regularly visit, the carer's own home as part of the household, rather than through a residential care setting. Shared Lives carers are approved and supported by a local Shared Lives scheme (usually run by the council or a regulated provider) and, like foster carers, can benefit from Qualifying Care Relief on the income they receive.
