Terms of Service
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of CalcHub.uk (the “Site”), a free educational website that publishes UK financial calculators and explanatory content. Please read them carefully — by using the Site, you agree to be bound by them.
1. Acceptance of these terms
By accessing, browsing or otherwise using CalcHub.uk, you confirm that you have read, understood and agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy. If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, you must stop using the Site.
These Terms form a legally binding agreement between you (the “user”, “you”) and CalcHub.uk (the “operator”, “we”, “us”, “our”).
2. About CalcHub.uk
CalcHub.uk is a free, independent UK calculator website. We publish interactive calculators and plain-English explanatory articles covering income tax, National Insurance, stamp duty, mortgages, pensions, savings, energy bills, council tax, BMI and related topics.
CalcHub.uk is general financial information only. It is an educational tool. CalcHub.uk is not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). Nothing on the Site constitutes financial, investment, tax, legal or other professional advice. See section 9 for the full disclaimer.
3. Eligibility
The Site is intended for users aged 18 or over. By using CalcHub.uk you confirm that you are at least 18 years old, or that a parent or guardian is supervising your use. The Site is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18 — see our Privacy Policy.
4. Permitted use
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and use CalcHub.uk for your own personal, non-commercial purposes. This includes:
- Viewing pages and running calculators in your browser.
- Printing or downloading a reasonable number of pages for your own personal reference.
- Linking to public pages of CalcHub.uk from another website, provided the link does not suggest an endorsement, partnership or association that does not exist.
All other use — particularly any commercial use, redistribution, republication or automated extraction — requires our prior written permission. Email avalonsuport@gmail.com with a description of the intended use.
5. Prohibited use
You must not:
- Scrape, harvest, mirror or otherwise extract substantial parts of CalcHub.uk content using automated means without our written permission.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile or attempt to derive the source code of our calculators beyond what is exposed by your browser's developer tools for your own personal inspection.
- Frame the Site, or embed pages from the Site inside another website, without our written permission.
- Submit malicious requests, attempt denial-of-service attacks, probe for vulnerabilities or otherwise interfere with the operation of the Site or its hosting infrastructure.
- Use the Site in any way that breaches applicable UK law, including the Computer Misuse Act 1990, the Data Protection Act 2018 or the Fraud Act 2006.
- Impersonate CalcHub.uk, or use our trade marks, name or branding in a way likely to confuse a reasonable user.
- Use CalcHub.uk content as training input for machine-learning models without our prior written permission.
We reserve the right to block access from any IP address, network or user agent that we reasonably believe is engaged in prohibited use.
6. Intellectual property
All original content on CalcHub.uk — including written articles, calculator logic, page layouts, illustrations, the “CalcHub” name and the curated UK tax-rate datasets we maintain — is © CalcHub.uk and is protected by UK copyright law and the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988.
Underlying official UK tax rates, thresholds and figures are themselves matters of public record published by HMRC, Revenue Scotland, the Welsh Revenue Authority, LPSNI, DWP, Ofgem, the Bank of England, ONS and other public bodies. Where we reproduce material originated by HM Government, we do so under the Open Government Licence v3.0 with appropriate attribution.
Our curation, structure, calculator implementations and explanatory commentary are original works and are not covered by the OGL. Reuse of these requires our written permission.
7. User-generated content
CalcHub.uk currently does not invite user-generated content (no public comments, forums or user profiles). If we launch a feature that accepts user submissions in the future, additional terms will apply and you will be notified before that feature becomes available to you. Messages sent via our contact form are processed solely to respond to your enquiry.
8. Accuracy disclaimer
All calculations on CalcHub.uk are best-effort estimates produced from publicly available UK rates and rules. We verify our outputs against HMRC reference calculators where they exist and apply a ±£1 tolerance, and we update our rate tables annually each tax year and within seven days of in-year fiscal events. Errors can nevertheless occur.
You must always verify any figure that materially affects a financial decision against the primary source on gov.uk or directly with HMRC, your employer, your pension provider or your conveyancer as appropriate. You remain solely responsible for any decision you take on the basis of a CalcHub.uk calculation.
To report a suspected error, please use our contact form and follow our corrections policy.
9. No financial, tax or investment advice
CalcHub.uk is not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and does not provide regulated financial advice. Nothing on the Site is:
- a personal recommendation for a financial product, investment or course of action;
- tax advice on your individual circumstances;
- legal advice; or
- a solicitation to buy or sell any regulated financial product.
For advice tailored to your personal circumstances you should consult a suitably qualified UK professional — for example a chartered tax adviser via the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) or the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT), a chartered accountant via ACCA or ICAEW, or an FCA-authorised independent financial adviser via unbiased.co.uk or VouchedFor.
10. Third-party links
CalcHub.uk contains links to third-party websites, in particular pages on gov.uk and other UK government and regulator domains. These links are provided for your convenience and because they are the authoritative primary sources for the figures we publish. A link does not constitute an endorsement of the linked site, its operator, its content or any product or service offered there. We are not responsible for the content, accuracy, availability, security or privacy practices of any third-party site. You access third-party sites at your own risk and subject to their own terms.
11. Limitation of liability
CalcHub.uk is provided free of charge on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we exclude all implied warranties, conditions and other terms that might otherwise be implied into your use of the Site.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for:
- death or personal injury caused by our negligence;
- fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation;
- any statutory rights you have as a consumer under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 or other applicable UK consumer-protection legislation that cannot lawfully be excluded; or
- any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded under the laws of England and Wales.
Subject to the foregoing, and because CalcHub.uk is supplied free of charge:
- we accept no liability for any loss of profit, loss of business, loss of opportunity, loss of goodwill or any indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Site;
- our total aggregate liability to you arising out of or in connection with the Site is capped at the minimum amount permitted by applicable law.
Because the Site is a free educational tool and not a paid service, we believe this limitation is reasonable. It does not affect your statutory consumer rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold CalcHub.uk, its operators and any contributors harmless from and against any claim, loss, liability, cost or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of (a) your breach of these Terms, (b) your prohibited or unlawful use of the Site, or (c) your reliance on a calculator output for any decision without independently verifying the figure with a qualified professional or primary source.
13. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Site at any time, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe that you have breached these Terms or that your use of the Site is unlawful or harmful. Provisions of these Terms which by their nature should survive termination (intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, governing law) will continue to apply.
14. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms and any non-contractual obligation arising out of or in connection with them are governed by, and shall be construed in accordance with, the laws of England and Wales.
Subject to any consumer rights that mandatorily apply in your jurisdiction of residence, you agree that the courts of England and Wales will have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute or claim arising out of these Terms or your use of the Site.
15. Dispute resolution
If a dispute arises, please contact us first at avalonsuport@gmail.com so we can try to resolve it informally. Most issues can be resolved this way within a few working days.
If informal resolution is unsuccessful, we encourage mediation or alternative dispute resolution (ADR) before any court proceedings. An accredited ADR provider such as the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR) can assist. Nothing in this section restricts your right to bring proceedings in the courts of England and Wales.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes in our services, applicable law or commercial circumstances. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. For material changes we will post a prominent notice on the Site. Your continued use of CalcHub.uk after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
17. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is held by a court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, illegal or unenforceable, that provision will be deemed modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, or, if that is not possible, severed from these Terms. The remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
18. Contact
For any questions, requests for permission, corrections or notices under these Terms, please contact us:
- Email: avalonsuport@gmail.com
- Contact form: /contact/
We aim to respond to substantive enquiries within 2–3 working days, and within 7 working days for complex matters.
