What is APS (Additional Permitted Subscription)?
Extra ISA allowance for a surviving spouse equal to the deceased's ISA value.
Full Definition
APS (Additional Permitted Subscription) gives a surviving spouse or civil partner an extra ISA allowance equal to the value of the deceased's ISA(s) at death (or value when transferred, whichever is higher). Available to spouse only — not other beneficiaries. Apply within 3 years of death to surviving spouse's ISA provider. The ISA itself loses tax-free status at death but the APS allows the same amount to keep growing tax-free in the survivor's ISA. Crucial for wealth preservation.
