What is Attendance Allowance (Higher Rate)?
The higher of the two weekly rates of Attendance Allowance, for people needing help both day and night.
Full Definition
Attendance Allowance is a non-means-tested benefit for people over State Pension age who need help with personal care because of illness or disability, and it is paid at one of two weekly rates. The higher rate applies to people who need help or supervision throughout both the day and the night (or who are terminally ill), while the lower rate applies to those needing help during the day only or at night only. It is not affected by income or savings and does not require a carer to actually be providing the help, only that the need exists.
