What is Disability Living Allowance (Legacy)?
The older disability benefit, now largely replaced by PIP for adults and Adult Disability Payment in Scotland.
Full Definition
Disability Living Allowance (DLA) is the legacy benefit that Personal Independence Payment (PIP) has replaced for most working-age adults in England and Wales, and that Adult Disability Payment has replaced for adults in Scotland; DLA continues for children under 16 across Great Britain. Existing adult claimants who have not yet been reassessed may still receive DLA, but new working-age claims are no longer accepted — they must claim PIP (or Adult Disability Payment in Scotland) instead.
