HMRC (His Majesty's Revenue and Customs) is the UK government department responsible for collecting taxes, paying some forms of state support, administering certain regulatory regimes (national minimum wage), and protecting the UK's tax system. Created in 2005 by merging Inland Revenue with HM Customs and Excise. HMRC oversees Income Tax, NI, VAT, CGT, IHT, Corporation Tax and more. Renamed from "Her Majesty's" to "His Majesty's" after King Charles III's accession in September 2022. Contact: 0300 200 3300 (general enquiries).
