Pest control technicians work either as employees of national or local pest control companies, or as self-employed contractors running their own van and client base. Pay progresses from trainee through BPCA (British Pest Control Association) or RSPH-qualified field technician to area manager, with self-employment offering higher but less predictable, seasonally variable income. This guide sets out realistic UK pay by level, shows estimated take-home after Income Tax and National Insurance for 2026/27 for both employed and self-employed routes, and explains the qualifications and expenses that affect net pay. All figures are estimates -- use the linked calculators for your own numbers.
Indicative UK ranges. London and the South East, and specialist commercial contracts (food production, hospitals, heritage buildings), typically pay towards the top of each range.

Self-employed pest control contractors set their own rates and client list but must fund their own van, chemicals, equipment, insurance and BPCA/RSPH membership. Take-home depends on profit (fee income minus allowable expenses) after Income Tax and Class 4 National Insurance.

| Established sole-trader contractor | GBP 38,000 | GBP 5,086 | GBP 1,526 | GBP 31,388 | GBP 2,616/mo |
Class 2 National Insurance was abolished for most self-employed people from April 2024, so only Class 4 NI (6% on profits between GBP 12,570 and GBP 50,270, 2% above that) applies alongside Income Tax.
