What was different about 2023/24
In 2023/24, employee National Insurance was still in the middle of its rate journey — the main Class 1 rate dropped from 12% to 10% from 6 January 2024 (a part-year cut). Income Tax thresholds remained frozen at PA £12,570 / higher rate at £50,270, while the additional-rate threshold had just dropped from £150,000 to £125,140 from April 2023.
